Meet Our Mineral Water Producer...
Deeside Water Company, Royal Deeside, Scotland
Our History
The Deeside Water Company has been family owned and run since it was started by George and Martin Simpson in May 1996. It began with hand bottling and local delivery from the back of a car! Demand for the healthy water grew and so did the company and over the following years a small bottling line was installed and buildings upgraded. Natural Mineral Water status, the highest possible standard for bottled water, was confirmed in 1998 and the name modified to Deeside Mineral Water, a fantastic reward for years of extensive testing and analysis to confirm the water’s exceptional quality and purity.
Duchy Selections Royal Deeside Still Mineral Water and Royal Deeside Sparkling Mineral Water were added to the range in 2002 and supplied in beautiful frosted glass bottles.
The company grew over the years and a modern bottling line was installed in 2005 and a new warehouse built in 2007, but the charm of the water and its location still remain. The company retains its core family values and respect for this gift from nature. We like to think we are big enough to cope but small enough to care.
The company is still run by the Simpson family and has a total staff of ten. This includes two brothers and two sisters who work at the company. Its rural location in the hills means there are relatively few people in the area and we are delighted to say most of our staff have been with us for years.
Our LocationDeeside Mineral Water flows from a natural spring in one of the most beautiful, unspoilt parts of Scotland. It is remote, located 600 feet above sea level in the middle of the Grampian Hills and lies within the protected area of the Cairngorm National Park, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With no people, pollution, farming or anything else on the hills, just heather and wilderness, the pure waters are allowed to flow as nature intended.
Balmoral Castle, the Highland home of The Royal Family is only a few miles from the spring and Queen Victoria is one famous historical visitor who sampled and wrote about the waters in her Highland Journals.
Our Production Methods
Over 1 billion litres of rain fall in only 1 square mile around the springs every year, although the catchment area extends far beyond this into the hills. The water spends around 50 years being gently filtered through the layers of underground rock and millions of miles of crevices, during which time its unique qualities are absorbed and captured. The water then flows through a series of underground fault lines before emerging naturally under its own pressure from the artesian springs on the hillside.
This natural process has remained unchanged for thousands of years and gives the water its special properties. We believe in nature and the process which provides this unique water, which is why we only use what the springs provide under their own pressure. We will never sink boreholes to pump out more water than the springs can offer. This makes us almost unique in the world of water. We think natural is best!
Deeside Mineral Water has become famous over the years, not only for its exceptional purity, but also for its healthy properties. A long history of healing qualities have been recorded and supplemented by modern analyses and research studies which confirm an unusual balance of beneficial natural characteristics in this water. It has been shown to help promote well-being, with anti-oxidant effects being noted and benefits for skin condition.
