The Prince of Wales
Duchy Originals embodies HRH The Prince of Wales's commitment to what he calls a 'virtuous circle' of providing natural, high-quality organic and premium products, while helping to protect and sustain the countryside and wildlife. This in turn helps generate profits for charity rather than for commercial gain.
He spoke of it in 2002, the year of the company's 10 year anniversary: "I wanted to demonstrate that it was possible to produce food of the highest quality, working in harmony with the environment and nature, using the best ingredients and adding value through expert production. I also wanted to engender increasing funds for my Charitable Foundation, which receives all the profits through which I can then support an increasing number of worthwhile projects."
The Prince of Wales is first in line to the British Throne and holds the traditional titles of The Duke of Cornwall under a charter of King Edward III in 1337; and, in the Scottish peerage, of Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron Renfrew, Lord of the Isles, and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland.
As Heir to the Throne, The Prince of Wales seeks, with the support of his wife, to do all he can to use his unique position to make a difference for the better in the United Kingdom and internationally.
Through the years, His Royal Highness has developed a wide range of interests which are today reflected in The Prince's Charities Foundation, a group of 19 not-for-profit organisations of which The Prince of Wales is President. Seventeen of the 19 Charities were founded personally by The Prince.
The group is the largest multi-cause charitable enterprise in the United Kingdom, raising more than £110 million annually. The organisations are active across a broad range of areas including opportunity and enterprise, education, health, the built environment, responsible business, the natural environment and the arts.
