A Cake Fit For The Prince - and the winner is......
Posted by caroline
We are delighted to announce that the winner of our Cornish competition to create 'A Cake Fit For The Prince' for his 60th birthday is Hailee McColl, a five year old pupil from St Petrocs CofE Primary School, Bodmin in North Cornwall.Entries came in for the competition from all over Cornwall from children aged between 4 and 10 whose culinary creativity knew no bounds. We gathered a top panel of foodies including our very own head pastry chef Dan Zackey and Master Chocolatier William Curley, to judge the outpouring of gorgeous ideas for the perfect birthday cake.
Hailee's design is a very colourful and eyecatching vanilla and chocolate tractor cake which she sent in with a detailed illustration of what the finished creation should look like. She was a special guest, together with her school, when she visited The Duchy Originals Bakery in Launceston this week to help head pastry chef Dan Zackey create her cake - which was baked with all organic ingredients - in time for HRH The Prince Of Wales's big day on Friday 14th November.
Judge, Master Chocolatier William Curley said: "We received a fantastic response and it was an extremely hard decision to choose the winner. In the end we decided that Hailee's entry particularly stood out due to the thought and creativity that had gone into her stunning cake and its design. However I must say that all of the designs were very impressive".
The runners up - which included such original and delicious suggestions as an apple and blueberry crown featuring the Duchy of Cornwall and a colourful field and a vanilla and apple cake showing The Prince of Wales watering his plants - will have their designs showcased here on the website during The Prince's 60th year.

I choose a Duchy Christmas Pudding to send as a special treat to my very dear friends in Chattanooga Tennessee USA this year. Its now safely with them, and they are absolutely thrilled to have received it. This is their first introduction to this very traditional British Christmas treat...so nothing less than a Royally Labelled Duchy pudding would suffice. :-).
They are mightily impressed by His Royal Highness Prince Charles charitable works, and I am mightily delighted to have been able to spread The Duchy Word abroad to them on this Joyous occasion.
Thank you and Joyous and Blessed Christmas to you all.
