Little Boar, Big Boar
Posted in Organic Farming Livestock , Baby Animals by David Wilson
The other day one of our young Tamworth boars (a male pig) thought he'd jump over a fence and get in with one of our older boars. Sadly the older boar, four years old, twice the size of the younger boar and with tusks, was not happy to receive an unexpected visitor. A tussle between the two ensued - luckily we were alerted quickly and were able to get the little boar out fast. We took him down to one of the barns and put him on some straw, gave him some organic pig food and within a few days he had made an amazing recovery, a real testimony to a pig's immune system. Pigs are sociable animals and he had missed his friends so much that when he returned to them he was hooting with delight! I really hope he's learned his lesson and won't try to join one of the older boars again!

Hi David
surely the most sustainable agriculture would be growing (preferably organic) crops
directly for human consumption. Your little boar big boar story so vividly illustrates the
sentience of pigs that I am sad that they are destined for the abattoir.
People assume that a vegetarian/vegan lifesyle would be limited and bland. I can assure
you it is neither, and the real winner would be the environment.
Hope all is well
