Free Range Unsmoked Back Bacon
First question: why not completely organic?
The answer is simple: there’s just not enough organic pork to go round. What there are, however, is a lot of excellent free-range farmers operating to the highest standards of animal welfare. We think it’s worth supporting these quality producers as well.
The pigs live a happy, outdoor life, typically with two to three times more space than intensive operations and far more pasture – rooting and foraging around is one of their greatest pleasures. Unlike other producers, we strictly outlaw what we regard as cruel practices – like tail docking and tooth clipping.
After a happy, carefree life (trust us, the pigs have a great time!), we slaughter the animals as humanely as possible at an abattoir near to the farm to reduce stress. For more about our pigs, visit the Home Farm section.
All our free-range bacon is produced by the same traditional producers who make our organic bacon. It goes through the same careful two-week curing process, before being washed, air dried, chilled (not frozen), cut into rashers and packaged.
The next stop is your frying pan.
If you’re of a certain age, it’s bacon like bacon used to taste. If you’re under 30, it’s bacon like you’ve never tasted before.
