Our History
Over 40 years ago Master Chocolatier, Richard Ungaretti, took his passion for the art of fine chocolate and created a company that continues to tantalise the taste buds of customers around the world to this day. Perfectly balanced ingredients, innovative taste sensations and traditional production methods combine to produce confectionery so exceptional that it exceeds all expectations.
Our LocationOur purpose built factory is located in Poundbury Village, Dorset. An important element of the Poundbury concept is the seamless integration of environmentally friendly industry within the community. We recruit from this community and have made a commitment to maintain its staffing so that at least half of the production team live within walking or cycling distance from the factory.
Our Production Methods
In general, we still use traditional methods which we believe are the best way to create chocolates and are proud to continue these time-honoured techniques. We are proud of our organic status and when we produce Duchy Originals Organic Chocolate Bezants, we make small batches of 25 kilos at a time for each flavour of chocolate.
Our Products
To make the Chocolate Bezants, we first take organic milk, white and dark chocolate then infuse it with the following natural flavours:
Natural Mitcham Mint Oil, a heritage variety of English peppermint dating back to the 18th Century.
Rich ground Arabica Coffee Beans, which are slow roasted to give extra depth of flavour.
Sweet Spanish Orange Oil, which comes from Valencia oranges grown in the Mercia region of Spain.
Vanilla from the Island of Madagascar, which is renowned for producing some of the world’s finest bourbon vanilla.
Duchy Originals organic chocolates are free from hydrogenated fat and artificial colours and flavours, giving the chocolate a more natural, cleaner taste.
House of Dorchester were delighted to be selected to produce Duchy Originals new range of Organic Chocolate Bezants. Named after the gold coins which appear on the Duchy of Cornwall coat of arms and Duchy Originals' crest, these delicious Organic Chocolate Bezants are available in four mouthwatering flavours: Mitcham Mint, Spanish Orange, Arabica Coffee and Madagascan Vanilla.
