Since its launch in 1989 almost 10,000 young entrepreneurs in Scotland have been given a huge boost from the support provided by The Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT).
For those aged 18-25, having the confidence to launch their own business isn’t the only challenge they may face. Raising the finance and simply having the life skills to prepare for the future as a self-employed person are key ingredients for success.
For many young people the financial support provided by PSYBT at the start of their new venture is the most crucial element. However they quickly realise that the practical advice and encouragement given by their own aftercare adviser is worth so much more.
When Claire Ross (pictured) first launched her vintage clothing and accessories business in Aberdeen she was delighted to be introduced to other PYSBT backed businesses and very quickly realised what a tremendous support network she had joined. Claire said, ‘Within a few weeks of trading I had already placed my printing order with another business my aftercare advisor looked after. The enthusiasm I get from everyone at PSYBT has made a real impact on my business. I launched a second shop in Dundee and I feel by sourcing and selling beautiful vintage items I’m helping the planet too!’
Many of the young people supported by PSYBT are now returning to act as ambassadors, to volunteer as panel members or aftercare advisors or to donate money to help other young people starting up in business.
