A Cake Fit for The Prince
The challenge...
To celebrate HRH The Prince of Wales's 60th birthday on 14th November, we asked children in Cornwall to put their chef's hats on to create a birthday cake that's 'Fit For The Prince’.
The competition was open to children in Cornwall between the ages of four and ten, and we stated that the cake should reflect The Prince's passion for organic food and farming. Children were asked to consider the flavour of their cake as well as the decoration.
The judges...
We gathered a top panel of foodies including our very own pastry chef Dan Zackey and Master Chocolatier William Curley, who was named 'Best British Chocolatier' for the second year running, to judge the entries and select the lucky winner.
And the winner is...
The entries were narrowed down to the final ten, from which the winning design was chosen of a colourful tractor shaped cake by 5 year old Hailee McColl, a pupil at St Petroc's CofE Primary School in Bodmin. Hailee was thrilled to be invited to the Duchy Originals Bakery in Launceston, Cornwall to help make and decorate her winning cake. Hailee's winning design and the finished cake are showcased below.

The Runners Up...
Nine runners up were also chosen and their cake designs are on display below. Congratulations to all of the children who took part for their hard work and imaginative cake designs. Picking the winner was a very tough choice indeed!
